Ponies Still Wondering: Cello or Double Bass?

Octavia is too cool for this debate. I am not. What is the instrument she plays? I'd thought it was settled when Jayson Thiessen mentioned in his Reddit interview that he thought it was a Cello, but a pony with an absurdly suave voice has gone and made a video using apples, size comparisons and a lot of math to blow the lid right off this mystery. So I'm back to not being sure (and once upon a time, I was sure in the opposite direction).

This brings up a pretty interesting topic though.  If the characters in FiM weren't ridiculously cute ponies, would the show still be awesome with just the personalities/writing/art style to back it up?

If you had to choose another creature to take their place, using their art style, what would it be?

Discussion: What kind of regular articles would you like to see?

Time for you guys to be a test audience again. If you're getting sick of this... well, actually, I still wouldn't stop even if you said yes. You secretly like it and I know it.

So far, the blog as a whole has carved out a niche in the community by hosting several types of content. We have original fan fiction, original and show-derivative fan videos, and fan-made music. So far, however, there has been very little blog-specific content being showcased. Actually, almost none at all.

We'd like to change that. But first, we'd like some opinions.

Phoe and I are ready to begin regular columns focusing on whatever topics that you guys would like to read about. The problem doesn't lie with finding ideas- I can and do rant about whatever I want to for paragraphs at a time, and Phoe is much better at it than I am, just more reserved. No, the trouble is that we don't know what you guys want to read!

So, have at it. Throw out some ideas for us. We'd like to get a good feel for the general needs of our readers before we start making these things. Titles, too. Titles would be nice. I'm terrible at titles.

Discussion: What do you think of science fiction?

Cereal Tries His Hoof At A Discussion Post Edition.

So: I know there are a lot of fiction writers that visit this site. I know because half the news posts are stories. It's not hard to miss, guys. You can't sneak these things past me. Before you know it, it'll drive me to write fics, too, and... oh, wait.

Anyway, back to it. One of my favorite authors once wrote a long diatribe on the difference between fantasy fiction and science fiction. He brought up a lot of good points, and made a lot of good comparisons between the two genres, but I'll condense it down for you into something immediately useable: there really is no difference between the two.

Bullshit, Cereal! No, listen. Let me lay this out for you. Fantasy fiction and science fiction are both forms of what is called speculative fiction. That is, they're both about things that are not real at this present moment.

To put it bluntly: fantasy fiction is about things that could never happen, and science fiction is about things that could happen. Both explore human stories and human psychology in an alien environment. The only difference between the two is the methods. In fantasy, you do it by rubbing a lamp. In science fiction, you do it by pushing a button. That's the only thing keeping them apart.

So, here's the clincher. Ponies are fantasy, therefore I'm ready to assume that most of you also like science fiction to a degree. What do you think about the genre? Do you hate it? Love it? Have you written anything in it? Let's discuss!

Pony Music Discussion - Pony DJ Youtube Channel

Just in case you guys were bored of Scratch, it looks like this crazy brony has released the entire mane cast as DJ ponies.

Which pony fits with each genre of music best though?  We used to have threads dedicated to this on /co/.  They were a pain for me trying to gather stuff to post here, but still fun when I wasn't stressing out about posting a whopping 8 things a day. 

Feel free to bombard the comments with youtube links and the ponies that go with it! My pet spam filter needs to learn not to filter youtube, and what better way to teach it than swarm it?!

Discussion: What kind of event would you like to see?

I need ideas for events!

We were going to do an OC pony mary sue competition, but judging by the outrage in that OC pony joke post a few days ago, that might not be the best idea!

What would you guys like to see? The friend off will be in 2 weeks on June 1st, as always, but we need something to do until then!

I've considered doing a banner competition, but I'm not sure how many could participate in a photoshop/art thing.  I like to keep these open to everypony.
